John
Powers
John Powers, son of John (1769-1842) and Mary
(1774-1829),b. 1799, d. July 2, 1872, m. Emma Sarah
Allen (b. April 17, 1803, d. October 25, 1844).
John was a successful businessman with a large
bakery. John and Frank took over their
Father’s business when he died. The only
recollection of him came from Alfred’s daughter, Louie: “Grandpa Powers
requested that for his funeral, all his sons have a new tailored black broadcloth
suit, and that the grandchildren all be dressed in black. Money was left to fulfill the request. My mother had two dressmakers in the house to
make hers and our dresses.” It is noted
that John died in 1872 and Alfred came to Canada in 1873.
